An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a PC and works as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transfers requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, hosting servers also have an Operating System that functions as a host for all the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you can install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a wider choice regarding the system environment on the server as different apps can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Depending on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you intend to run. We can also upgrade your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
