The dot SE ccTLD was established in 1986 and given to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domains were booked. Persons could register no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was compulsory, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations were able to grab a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a result, the number of .SE domains has been growing each year.

Presently, anybody can register a dot SE domain, which gives you the chance to get in touch with the Swedish web community even if you do not have a local presence.
